The Centre for Quality Assurance and Academic Development (CQAAD), Nirma University organised a four-week long Faculty Induction Training Programme (Fifth Batch) during May 27, 2019-June 21, 2019.
There were 40 participants from the eight constituent Institutes under Nirma University who underwent the training programme. The programme aimed at discussing techniques that can help the new faculty members in effectively conducting classes. Imparting knowledge on University governance and building teacher-student communication were also discussed in the programme.
The induction programme had two phases. The first phase had sessions on effective classroom teaching and pedagogy, personality development, and knowing the University. In the second phase, discipline-specific skill enhancement techniques were taught to the participants by the mentors from their respective Institute.
The Induction Training Programme inaugurated on May 27, 2019, in the august presence of Dr Bhavesh Patel, Kulpati, Charutar Vidyamandal, Vallabh Vidyanagar and Dr Anup Singh, Director General, Nirma University. Addressing the audience, Dr Bhavesh discussed the influence a teacher has on a student. He also gave tips on effectively balancing the teaching, research and administration duties by citing examples from his 42 years-long journey in this field.
Dr Anup Singh addressed the new faculty members and emphasised on how teachers are becoming an influence and a role model for the students and the society. He further discussed the attributes a good teacher must possess, like ethics, integrity, trust, training, teamwork, leadership and communication.
The programme had fifty eminent resource persons who delivered lectures and conducted workshops. To impart the skills, they used a variety of teaching methods like theory, practical exercises, case studies, stimulating discussions, experience sharing, and a combination of some or all in their sessions.
